Working as a project consultant | getting rid of the preconceptions

Company news

As a recruiter, every day you talk to a lot of candidates who you would like to get to know. What do they enjoy doing? What position would they like to fulfil? And how can Bennet respond to this?

There are two ways of joining Bennet:

  • Freelance
  • Project Consultant

As a recruiter, you soon notice that candidates haven’t entirely mastered the concept of “Project Consulting” or that they have some preconceptions. What does it mean to be a Project Consultant at Bennet and what preconceptions can you set aside completely?

What’s in a name: Project Consulting

‘A Project Consultant at Bennet is a permanent employee with an open-ended contract who assists an end client with their activity for a project.’

The preconceptions that the recruiters at Bennet often hear are listed below, along with the necessary explanation in case people still aren’t totally convinced!

AS A PROJECT CONSULTANT, YOU HAVE NO JOB SECURITY.

We beg to differ! At Bennet, we always look for long-term assignments (> 6 months). Three months before the assignment is scheduled to end – and bearing in mind your preferred choice – we try to extend the assignment with the end client. If the end client offers no further possibilities, we look for a new assignment three months in advance so that you benefit from a smooth transition period. Who is happy to sit on the bench? No-one!

BY THE TIME I’M SETTLED IN WITH ONE END CLIENT, I HAVE TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT.

That is certainly not always the case. Many of our consultants can stay with the same end client for a long time (over two years). And you can quickly turn this disadvantage into an advantage. Building up a lot of experience with various different end clients looks good on your CV. You learn to work on various sites, your ability to adapt quickly improves and therefore so does your credibility when applying for jobs.

HAVING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN CONSULTANCY DOESN’T SEEM POSSIBLE TO ME.

You should always bear in mind that Bennet is your employer, which means we are continually taking care and working to meet your needs. Even though you are not actually at head office, you are nevertheless a permanent employee. From recruitment onwards, we regularly look to see where your ambitions lie and we work together to achieve them. You receive an annual training budget from us, we exchange views during brainstorming meetings and once or twice a year we schedule an official moment to highlight all the needs. You ask, we make it happen!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ME IF I DON’T LIKE THE PROJECT?

A project can always go wrong. Colleagues are not what they should be. Your safety values don’t match those of the end client. The distance is a problem. The job content isn’t in line with your ambitions. And so on. Of course, we always want to avoid the feeling that ‘I really can’t finish this project’. Sound the alarm immediately and we will put you on another project as quickly as possible!

As you can see, all your worries about working as a consultant are needless! :-)
